Henry Drury
Henry Drury, of Wesley Chapel, Florida, is the definition of grit and determination. A former two-time national figure skating champion in Great Britain, Henry once dreamed of representing his country at the Winter Olympics. Alongside his sister, he dedicated his early life to training—up to eight hours a day—with his sights set on Olympic glory. But at just 15 years old, those dreams came to a devastating halt.
While attempting an advanced lift during practice, Henry herniated two lumbar discs, triggering a decade-long battle with debilitating pain, dashed hopes, and mental health struggles. Despite numerous treatments—from epidural injections to stem cell therapy—his condition worsened, and the chronic pain began to take a deep toll on every part of his life.
“I lost my purpose,” Henry shares candidly. “When you’re stuck in bed every day in pain, your whole world shrinks. I went from training like an Olympian to wondering if life was even worth living.”
But Henry didn’t give up. In late 2022, he underwent a life-changing artificial disc replacement surgery performed by Dr. Richard Guyer at the Texas Back Institute. Within six months, Henry was not only out of pain—he was back to chasing a childhood dream that had never left him: becoming a professional race car driver.
Today, Henry drives for PT Autosport. In 2024, he competed in the Toyota GR Cup North America Series. Though he still experiences occasional pain, he trains full-time and races competitively without fear of further damage to his spine.
“People think a serious injury is the end of the road,” Henry says. “But I want them to know that there’s still hope. Life after a spinal injury might look different than what you imagined—but it can still be beautiful, full of purpose, and even thrilling.”
Henry now uses his platform to encourage others—especially young athletes—facing similar struggles. His message is simple but powerful: Don’t give up. There’s always a way forward.
