Founded over 20 years ago by Dr. Thomas Schuler, the National Spine Health Foundation is a patient-centered, nonprofit organization focused on patient education, award-winning research and patient advocacy. Our mission is to empower patients to protect their spine health and take back their lives from debilitating spinal conditions. We give patients the tools they need to make informed decisions about their spine health and navigate their own treatment journeys with confidence. We believe patients deserve real solutions, real answers and real hope.
Our History
The National Spine Health Foundation was co-founded in 2002 by Dr. Thomas Schuler. Noting rapid evolutions in spinal healthcare due to advancements in both medicine and technology, Dr. Schuler realized there needed to be a national organization to raise awareness of the success of modern spinal treatments.
Medical and Scientific Board
We have convened an outstanding Medical and Scientific Board comprising the nation’s top spine surgeons, all recognized leaders in the field. Members of our Board also serve in top leadership roles at the most prestigious professional societies. These world-renowned experts are pioneers in the most important research and innovations in spinal health care.

We support policies and initiatives that offer much needed support to patients as they embark on their journey to spinal health.
