I have had back pain my whole life. When I was younger, I thought everyone’s back hurt after being on their feet for some time or hiking or exercising. I’ve always been very active. When I started playing tennis in my early 30s, I noticed the back pain increasing especially after being on the court for a couple of hours. When the pain was going down my legs it became debilitating. I consulted with Dr. Slosar, and was diagnosed with spondylolisthesis. Over the course of 12 years I needed to have surgery 3 times as the condition did travel up the lumbar spine. That said, after each of the surgeries I have about 5 years of completely pain free activity. I was amazed. For the first time in my life, I could be as active as I wanted and there was no back pain associated with my activity level. Over the years of these surgeries I had also cleaned up my diet. I went from the standard American diet to eating a whole food plant based & gluten-free diet. This made a huge difference in the recovery. The cleaner my diet the easier the recovery! I am now 67 years old. I feel better and have more energy than I did in my 40s. I attribute this to the care I received for my back as well as my diet. I ride my horses regularly and I play several hours of pickleball 3-4 days/week.
