Peter Newton, MD

Dr. Newton is the Chief of Orthopedics & Scoliosis and Surgeon-in-Chief at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego; Clinical Professor at UC San Diego School of Medicine

After obtaining a degree in bioengineering, he earned his medical degree from the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School. He completed his residency at UC San Diego and a pediatric orthopedics and scoliosis fellowship at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. Dr. Newton is a leader in treating scoliosis and other spinal conditions and has contributed to over 200 publications focusing on spine surgery innovations and orthopedic biomechanics.

As surgeon-in-chief, Dr. Newton has authored numerous books and chapters and holds esteemed positions in several pediatric orthopedic organizations, including past presidencies of the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America and the Scoliosis Research Society.

In addition to his professional commitments, Dr. Newton is passionate about travel, fishing, and auto mechanics.
