Arthritis and Back Pain: Treatment and Hope

Arthritis can cause back pain — and millions of people face this issue everyday. National Spine Health Foundation CEO Dr. Rita Roy joined the Arthritis Foundation podcast, “Live Yes,” to discuss this. In the episode, Dr. Roy shares her personal story of overcoming debilitating back pain and inspires hope for those who may be searching right now.

“I think when people are told they need back surgery, they are faced with fear and confusion,” said Dr. Roy. “There’s a stigma surrounding back surgery, and I was astounded how incredible the technology is and how quickly I recovered.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Arthritis is the swelling and tenderness of one or more of your joints. The main symptoms of arthritis are joint pain and stiffness, which typically worsen with age. The most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.”

It makes sense that so many spine health issues are related to other conditions, like arthritis. This means it’s extremely important for those working with overlapping conditions communicate with us and vice versa. We were so honored to chat with the Arthritis Foundation about this connection.

Like the Arthritis Foundation, our best and first advice is to speak with your doctor about what treatments would be best for you, but we hope you find hope and encouragement from this episode.
