Zoher Ghogawala, MD

Dr. Zoher Ghogawala is the Chairman of Neurosurgery at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts as well as Professor of Neurosurgery at Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Ghogawala has served on the North American Spine Society Board of Directors for 10 years and has served as both Research Council Chair and Health Policy Chair in addition to serving as Secretary last year. He also has recently served as Chair of the AANS/CNS joint section on disorders of the spine and peripheral nerves; Dr. Ghogawala leads multiple non-industry funded, peer-reviewed clinical trials that aim to understand the effectiveness of spinal procedures. He served as  national PI for the PCORI-sponsored Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy- Surgery study comparing ventral versus dorsal surgical approaches that was just published in JAMA. He served as National PI on the recently completed SLIP study – a randomized controlled trial published in NEJM that compared lumbar laminectomy alone to lumbar laminectomy plus instrumented pedicle screw fusion for treating grade I lumbar spondylolisthesis.
